When to Have a Baby Shower

Having a baby is exciting news for everyone in your life. There are going to be many parties, play dates and events that you are going to plan throughout this new journey with your child. The first party that you are going to throw for you and your child is going to be your baby shower. The big question is, when should you have a baby shower?

When during your pregnancy is the right time?

Most soon to be parents would agree that having your baby shower anywhere between 24-32 weeks is the best time to host the baby shower. Reason being is that you still have a lot of energy during this period and you will be able to be present for the whole event. It will also give you time to make a list of things you still might need after the shower and you can go and get them without being in a rush.

If you are having a difficult pregnancy, that is ok. You can still have a shower during this period but you are going to want to take it easy on the planning front.

You do not want to cut it too close to your due date though. You want to give yourself enough time to send out your thank you letters and pack away all your gifts that you receive. You will be on call 24/7 once the baby arrives so you are going to want to give yourself some time to get ready and not have to rush through the preparation process.

What days are best to host a baby shower?

Choosing a day for your shower can be a bit trickier. You want to make sure that your friends and family can share this shower with you. Try to plan your baby shower on a weekend where there are no big events happening. This will allow your guests to be able to enjoy your baby shower and not have to worry about time or somewhere else they have to be.

In case you want to have a week day baby shower, make sure that you plan the event for after work hours. These baby showers can have a coffee and cake theme for after dinner or a late afternoon tea.

You are also going to want to take into consideration the timing of your shower. Sometimes due to holidays and other events, you might not be able to have your shower when you want. Try plan around this as best you can so that you can have the shower of your dreams.

Who should host the baby shower?

This is a very common question that gets asked when it comes to a baby shower. Many people like to have someone else host their shower. Your close friends or family members might want to shower you with a party. This is going to help relieve your stress levels and make you feel like a princess at your own event. You will be as surprised as all your guests when they walk into the shower for the first time.

You can also host your own shower if you want. If people offer to help you, that is great. The more hands on deck, the quicker you can get things done and you will soon be able to relax and enjoy your party.

Moms often blame pregnancy brain. Having more eyes on the baby shower will help you make sure that you have not forgotten anything.

How long should a baby shower last?

This is entirely up to you! You do not want to have a shower that runs for too long or too short. You want there to be enough time to enjoy the food that you have prepared and many even play a baby game or two. You also want to take into consideration if you want to open up gifts in front of your guests or not. This can become a game or tradition for all your kids to come. Give yourself enough time to enjoy yourself and spend time with your guests.

End of the day, the right answer to the question is what best suits the mom to be.  You want to do your shower on a day that is best for you, a time that suits you and for as long as you want the party to go on for. A baby shower is not only a time whereby you get gifts for your baby and yourself but it is also a time where you can celebrate the pregnancy journey with your friends and family. For 9 months you are growing a child inside you and with every day stresses and world issues, there is no better reason to celebrate than to celebrate a mother and her soon to be new born.
