Newborn Checklist: Everything you need before your baby arrives

Sharing is caring!

Gonna be a Mommy for the very first time? Congratulations! It is such a wonderful feeling to become a parent, yet with all the happiness and excitement comes the real challenge. First, giving birth to your child, then changing diapers, feeding the baby, and those sleepless nights. But it is all worth suffering when you see the little angle having a sound sleep and when you hear those little innocent giggles.

Before the arrival of your little one, you must consider preparing for things the baby is going to need. It would be better if you get everything ready till your third trimester. But for the first-timers, it is sometimes confusing how to start preparations.

Therefore, I’m here to help you with this blog in which I’m going to discuss the essentials you must need to have.

Nursery Essentials

Either you are setting up a nursery or sharing your room with the baby. These are the things you should have in the room for the baby’s comfort. Because infants spend their time of the day sleeping mostly.

  • A baby crib or cradle
  • Soft mattress
  • Pure cotton fabric crib sheets
  • Al least 2 side pillows
  • Blanket
  • Changing unit to change diaper and clothes
  • Swaddle
  • Rocking chair

Vital Wardrobe Items

You would need to change your baby thrice a day. Sometimes their diapers leak, and sometimes they spit a little milk while burping. So you need to get a lot of clothes for the baby. And since infants grow up so fast, it would be good if you buy some extra size clothes. And I’m speaking it with my personal experience.

  • 5-10 shirts
  • 5-10 baby suites
  • 3-5 onesies
  • 3-5 rompers
  • 5-10 pajamas
  • 4-8 pair of socks
  • 3-6 pair of mittens
  • 3-5 sweaters
  • 2 wearable blankets
  • A dozen bibs

Basic Bath Items

You can buy a whole baby bathing kit or individual items. But only use baby products because their skin is more sensitive. And for your ease, you can either buy a little tub or bath seat. There is some cute bath lotus available online. You can put it in the sink of your kitchen and wash your baby there.

  • Baby bathtub or bath seat
  • 2-3 soft towels with hood
  • Baby shampoo and body wash
  • After bath baby lotion
  • Soft washcloth or sponge

Diapering Products

I don’t think there is anything more important than a diaper in a mother’s life. A good quality diaper saves you very much from the hassle of changing nappies every half an hour. I advise you to buy a dozen boxes.

  • Boxes of newborn-size disposable diapers
  • 6-8 dozen cloth diapers
  • 2-3 boxes of baby wipes
  • 2 packs of diaper cream
  • Diaper bag

Feeding Necessities

Either you are breastfeeding or deciding to give formula, These are the essentials you must-have for your baby.

  • 3-5 feeding bottles of each size
  • 8-10 bottle nipples
  • 2-3 milk storage bags
  • Bottle warmer
  • Bottle sterilizer
  • A dozen bibs
  • Nursing pads
  • Baby feeding pillow

Gearing Products

Traveling with an infant or carrying him around while you go for a walk should be added in the list of considerations. Buy the products I mentioned below so you can enjoy yourself with your hands free while you are taking your baby with you.

  • Infant car seat
  • Baby stroller
  • Baby carrier

Security & Safety

Baby proofing the windows, drawers, and cabinet is next level task. First, you need to install a baby monitor in the room, so if you are working in the kitchen or some other place in your home, you can hear or see when your baby needs yours.

  • Baby monitor
  • First aid kit
  • Night light
  • Mosquito net

First Baby Toys

Other than sleeping and crying, kids like to play with the thing that rattles. So purchase these toys and record the adorable smiles and giggles in the camera while your baby plays with them.

  • Baby playmat
  • Rattling socks and gloves
  • Teethers
  • Crib wind chime
  • Stroller toys
  • Plush toys

Baby Care Essentials

Since you would have to take care of each and everything being a parent, it is good to have these products too. In case if your child gets sick, you will have the important things to control the situation until the baby gets to see a doctor.

  • Petroleum jelly
  • Rash cream
  • Thermometer
  • Nasal aspirator
  • inhaler
  • 3-4 pacifiers
  • Vaporub

Grooming Essentials

You will have to do the grooming of the baby on your own. Therefore, don’t forget to buy the things I mentioned below. Everyone loves a neat and cleaned baby. Nobody wants to hold a baby who smells like sour milk and in leaked diapers. Maintaining hygiene is important for a baby’s health.

  • Nail Clipper
  • Baby powder
  • Shampoo
  • Baby wash
  • Baby lotion
  • Baby cologne

Final Words

These were just the basic lists of items that I believe every parent needs for a newborn. You can add or subtract things according to your choices and needs. But remember one thing! Whatever you are buying for the baby, make sure it is not harmful and have negative side effects.
